Dr. Thead’s Art Date: Dec. 20, 2007This is a Blue Flag, a type of iris that is probably my favorite wildflower. Date: Oct. 9, 2004 A montage from George Orwell’s masterpiece 1984. This piece depicts numerous objects that appear in the novel, although there is no scene where they all appear. Look closely through the smoke; there is a shadow on the wall of a man setting down a briefcase. Date: Sep. 27, 2004I have never been in the eye of a hurricane before and relied on photographs taken by aircraft pilots. The sorceress is controlling this hurricane, and she is in the eye of it. I’m not sure whether she’s good or evil, though! Date: May 24, 2010In “honor” of the Deepwater Horizon spill and environmental disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, I painted this. There is a lot of symbolism in this picture and none of it is subtle. Date: May 3, 2011In recent years I have developed a strong liking for the Steampunk Victorian aesthetic. This is a picture (somewhat of a self-portrait; there is a resemblance) of a Steampunk storm chaser in an alternate-reality year 1896 deploying a portable radar to pick up data about an approaching tornado.
